Stress & De Stress – An Introspection


Well, some amount of stress may be good for the individual as it increases competitive spirit, better output, keeps one physically and mentally agile too ! But as is established, chronic stress is undesirable, both to body and mind.An introspective analysis enabled me understand that emotions like fear, anxiety, apathy, disgust and distress, brooding, sedentary life style, form the root cause for stress.Loneliness and aloofness are the the best friends for stress.Usually a lonely person dives into the failures, troubles and  traumas, if any, of the past which develop stress and it may even spoil his or her present happy moments.Feelings like love and affection, sympathy and empathy, caring and sharing, an active and ambitious life style should help de stressing one self.Since chronic stress may contribute to many psychosomatic changes such as depression, changes in blood sugar levels in diabetics etc, ways and means of relieving stress are gaining popularity these days.

To start with, an important and simple way is to identify the factors that promote stress in an individual and distancing oneself from them, is no bad an option ! For instance, one can stop walking on a road with stray dogs  if one is so afraid and select an alternate route where feasible.

Engaging oneself in absorbing and enjoyable activities such as reading books, solving puzzles,meeting friends and relatives, walking, jogging,playing a game that involves a brisk activity such as shuttle or tennis etc are all beneficiary depending upon one’s interest and fitness.Deep breathing under an expert supervision is another important technique that helps to de stress.Getting exposed to sunlight occasionally, instead of staying indoors is another good option as it may help increasing the mood elevating  hormones.
